Sorry it's been so long. Been out hunting like everyone else. Got some details on some bottles we've been tasting so gonna get down to it. For this tasting, we have the:
Crown Royal 16 Year Rye (89.99)
Remus Repel Reserve Batch 2 (89.99)
J. Mattingly Chucks Wine and Spirits Store pick ( Single Stack .45 ACP 119.99 )

First up is Crown Royal. We were surprised at how hot this was for a canadian whiskey. We've had Caribou Crossing ( smooth ) and regular Crown Royal ( smooth ) but this has a little bit of heat to it. That's not a bad thing, and for the price we think it's pretty darn good. This bottle finished 2nd.

Next up we have the Remus Repeal Reserve Batch 2. This is MGP branded whiskey made in Indiana. Now listen, we got some KY boys in the club and there are some great bourbons coming out of Ky, but just right across the river in Lawrenceburg Indiana MGP is putting out some good stuff. This bottle is a blend, and a darn good one. It was the most popular of the 3 at this tasting.
Finally, we have the J. Mattingly pick.

This is a 13 year wheated product distilled in Indiana ( anyone? ) and picked by Chucks in Bowling Green. At 131 proof, this thing is a monster. Now, there are some bourbons at this proof ( Stagg Jr, George T Stagg ) that are favorites of WCWS. For this one, the wheat mellows out the front but the end is all over the place and just kinda falls apart.

This bottle reminds me a little bit of the Jack Daniels Barrel Select Barrel proof that I have which is around the same proof. Starts out great and then the heat and the intensity just takes over and it just kinda falls apart. This bottle is the most expensive of the three and finished 3rd. We're gonna put this one up for awhile and come back to it. Sometimes, whiskey can mellow out a little when it sits. Hopefully this one will tighten up a bit.
