Ok,
As we are exploring more Ryes wanted to pull some old and some new and see which one could win. We put together some great bottles for another great tasting:
Sazarac Rye
Thomas Handy 2019
Willet 4 Year Rye
E.H. Taylor Straight Rye
Midwinter Night's Dram Act 5 Scene 5
The E.H. Taylor came out on top again. Followed by a tie between the Midwinter and the Willet 4 year. Sazarac Rye finished 4 while the Thomas Handy finished last.
One of the things that is interesting about Bourbon ( and Rye ) is when you taste Barrel Proof vs Proof down version of the same product. Thomas Handy is the barrel proof expression of Sazarac Rye. For 33 dollars, Sazarac Rye is great. Smooth, great in mixers. The Thomas Handy is just too hot at it's proof. Next time we tackle this, we'll try and add an ice cube / water. Also got a tip from a buddy that it may be worth letting the bottle rest awhile and see if it changes. I will definitely update when we visit this bottle again.
