Suntory in Japan, which owns Jim Beam now as Beam Suntory, makes some fantastic whisky. Even though the main grain is rice, they can still make some fantastic stuff. I had an opportunity to try the 21 year, the 17 year, and the 12 year. My favorite was the 21, which is clearly better than the 17 and the 12. Having said that, the 17 and the 12 are no slouches either! Rumor has it that the 17 year and the 12 year are going to be discontinued.
This isn't bourbon, so if you are going to compare it to bourbon you will be disappointed. I would liken it to more like scotch if you have ever had that. However, I prefer the 21 over any scotch that I've ever had. The Hibiki 21 is an experience, and it really is.
Want to thank my friend Jerad for the sample of the 12 year!
